YouTube, TikTok, Messenger are Pinoy kids’ favorite apps, Kaspersky revealed

Right today, Filipino children are very interested in video content. According to statistics from the cybersecurity firm,

  • YouTube (26.46%)
  • TikTok (16.75%)
  • Messaging app, Facebook Messenger (16.07%)
  • Cross-platform online game, Roblox (13.67%)
  • Social media platform, Facebook (9.11%)

Between January and March 2022, Kaspersky examined anonymised data such as search queries, the most popular Android applications, and website categories provided voluntarily by Kaspersky Safe Kids customers to investigate the most popular children’s hobbies.

Children’s search behavior is the best predictor of their interests. Parents can gain a better idea of their children’s current favorite subjects and hobbies with this information.

Parents can use Kaspersky Safe Kids as a module in chosen Kaspersky products or as a standalone multi-platform solution to protect their children from harmful content. It also allows the cybersecurity firm to collect anonymous data on children’s online habits in order to recommend filtering. Every year, Kaspersky Safe Kids data is evaluated to determine children’s interests and how they are adapting to the digital world.

Other apps in the list

The Chrome browser (6.39 percent), YouTube Kids (3.54 percent), Netflix (3.08 percent), the first-person shooter game Call of Duty (2.56 percent), and the mobile online battle arena (MOBA) game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang are the other top apps for Filipino kids in the first quarter of the year (2.37 percent ).

“As one of the world’s most active digital citizens, it is no surprise that the Filipino children are enthusiastic explorers of the digital world themselves. Although, having not gone back physically to school since the pandemic, I understand that the majority of these kids are relying on the Internet not just for study but also for play and entertainment, most likely because of remote learning blues. We encourage parents to stay informed and commit to sitting down with their kids extensively as it’s an effective way to keep their children responsible and safe digital citizens,” said Sandra Lee, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky.

Worldwide Picture

Globally, YouTube continues to lead with 31.6 percent, followed by TikTok (19%), WhatsApp (18%), Roblox (7.5%), and Chrome to round out the top five (7.3 percent ).

Brawl Stars, Roblox’s closest competitor, has lost some popularity and now has only 4.8 percent of the market. Surprisingly, YouTube Kids, a dedicated app for kids, is not particularly popular, with only 2.1 percent of the market.

Among the visuals that emerged from the data of children’s requests in Kaspersky Safe Kids were:
