Ukrainian official: Over 7,000 Russian troops killed since start of invasion

KYIV/MOSCOW – Over 7,000 Russian servicemen have been killed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began, and hundreds, including senior officers, have been taken prisoner, according to a military adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Wednesday.

According to adviser Oleksiy Arestovich, a Russian army commander was taken to Belarus after being severely wounded, according to a televised briefing, reports Reuters.

Nearly a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that Moscow would launch a “military operation” in Ukraine, Kharkiv, the war-torn country’s second largest city, has been heavily bombarded as the United Nations condemned Russia’s invasion.

The largest attack on a European state since 1945 has resulted in over 870,000 people fleeing, a barrage of sanctions against Russia, and unthinkable fears of wider conflict in the West in decades, according to The Indian Times.
