As far as House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez is concerned, Bongbong Marcos’s son Sandro Marcos has what it takes to become a fine congressman. And that could happen as soon as later this year.

“Sandro Marcos is very much qualified and ready for the congressional job that he is aiming for. He has been trained and was very familiar with the legislative process and its nitty-gritty,” said Romualdez, president of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), in a statement Tuesday, March 15.

Romualdez admitted to mentoring the aspiring House member the past two years.

“I should know because he spent two years working in my office doing his congressional training, with no less than myself supervising and overseeing him,” he said of Sandro.

The British-educated Sandro, who obtained his master’s degree in Development Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science, is running for congressman in the first congressional district of Ilocos Norte in the May 2022 polls.

Sandro, 28, is the eldest of three sons of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) presidential candidate Marcos and lawyer Louise “Liza” Araneta Marcos.

The elder Marcos has acknowledged Romualdez’s mentorship of Sandro, saying the House leader taught his son about the daily grind at the House of Representatives, and imparted to him strategies that help expedite the passage of needed bills and other measures.

“Marami na siyang natutunan, sabi ko nga kung matuloy kang congressman very qualified ka na. Mas qualified ka doon sa mga ibang bagong pasok na walang pinagdaanan na ganyan (He has learned a lot, I told him that in case you win, you’ll make a very qualified congressman. You’re more qualified than the other rookie legislators who didn’t have that kind of training),” the UniTeam member said of his son.

During his birthday celebration on March 8, Sandro personally conveyed his appreciation to Romualdez for training and immersing him in the complicated legislative processes, which he refer back to once elected as representative.

“Lahat po ng natutunan ko sa Kongreso ay dahil sa kaniya. Ako po ay nagpapasalamat na nandito siya ngayon (Everything I learned from Congress came from him. I thank him for being here today). Sandro said of Romualdez, who is his uncle.
