Meet Daisy Bucad-Eng, a former domestic helper in Hong Kong.
Daisy is now a millionaire. She inherited PHP25 million from her bereaved boss.
Daisy now owns a five-story building, land, a house, jewelry, and money.
Daisy is from Mountain Province who got married early.
She was only sixteen years old when she married and had children.
To earn money, she sold salt in Besao, Mountain Province.
In the October 10, 2021 episode Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, she said, “Yung mga taga-Benguet ba talagang matakaw sila sa asin. Kasi isa pa, sa mga baboy nila, sa mga baka.”
She earns PHP100 to PHP300 per day selling salt.
But in an effort to provide for the family, she went to Hong Kong to work as a maid.
But Daisy was unlucky with her first boss.
“Hindi ko na nakayanan. Dalawang oras lang ang tulog mo, tatlong oras. Kukulangin iyon, e.”
Meanwhile, because she was away from the children, Daisy just found out that they were scattered on the road, and sometimes even hanging out in the jeep.
Daisy looked back when she heard this, “Pumasok ako sa ilalim ng lamesa doon ako umiyak.”
A NEW EMPLOYEE
Daisy finds a new boss. It was an old Portuguese: “Marie.”
She was paid 900 Hong Kong dollars or PHP2,700 per month.
But Daisy is happy because her boss considers her a family member.
The old Portuguese refused to live in a home for the aged and just took care of Daisy.
When Daisy decided to return to the Philippines, Marie went with her.
Until Marie passed away here in the Philippines in 2002.
Daisy said, “Wala na pala. Yung puso niya lumobo.”
Daisy served Marie for eleven years.
Marie’s remains were repatriated to Hong Kong by their relatives.
MARIE’S LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT
One day, a letter arrives for Daisy that will change her destiny.
In Marie’s last will and testament, Daisy is among her heirs.
One of these is an apartment worth PHP25 million.
Well-treated kami doon.”
She used to think, “Totoo ba to?’ Parang may katotohanan na nga ito.”
SALT VENDOR TURNED MILLIONAIRE
When Daisy got her inheritance, she built a five-storey building with a penthouse in Mountain province.
Her penthouse has transient homes, a gym, and for rent spaces for commercial establishments, and events place for rent.
Daisy’s building traces the culture and tradition of her origin because even the furniture is inspired by the Igorot culture.
She said, “Talagang ginawa ko talaga iyon para ma-picture out ko yung pinanggalingan ko.”
Daisy’s kitchen has a hanging garden, “Nature lover kasi ako kaya gusto ko yung mga halaman sa paligid ko.”
She bought a house and plantation in Mountain province.
In memory of Marie, she made a memorial statue a part of the penthouse.
“Sobrang mahal ko siya. Imagine siya ba naman ang nagbago ng kapalaran mo.”
“Marie Augusta Ramchand,” the epitaph reads.
Daisy also shared Marie’s advice to her when she was still alive.
She said she will never forget it, and she promised Marie, “I will do my best to do and to live and be a person that you want me to be.”
She said she believes that Marie is happy now, “I’m very sure you are so lucky looking at your legacy.
“Super talaga yung saya ngayon sa binigay ni Madam Marie. Maraming naitulong sa aking pamilya.”
Daisy gave advice to Overseas Filipino workers,
“Sa mga OFW naghihirap kayo ngayon, patience and hard work are the key to success.
“The overall denominator ng [lahat] ng ito ay yung honesty.
“Kung anumang trabaho ang meron ka diyan, gawin mo na nang tama.”
