Ph’s 3rd most K-pop fans, 2nd ‘countries tweeting most about K-pop’ in 2021: Twitter


The Philippines has the third-largest K-pop fan base on Twitter in 2021, according to the social media platform, demonstrating the country’s continued love for South Korean idol groups.

The Philippines came in third on Twitter’s current list of 20 “countries with the most K-pop fans,” which was based on internal data from January 1 to December 31, 2021, according to a statement.

According to Twitter, Indonesia topped the list, followed by Japan. South Korea came in fourth place, with the United States coming in fifth.

The Philippines was also listed second after Indonesia on Twitter’s list of “countries tweeting the most about K-pop.”

The third-most “tweeting about K-pop” country is South Korea, followed by Thailand and the United States, which are fourth and fifth, respectively.

BTS, who were nominated for a Grammy, led the list of “most tweeted about K-pop artists in the Philippines,” followed by Enhypen, who are on the same label as BTS.

The list also includes:

4. NCT
5. Seventeen
6. Treasure
7. Twice
8. EXO
9. Tomorrow X Together
10. Stray Kids

The list differs from one provided by Twitter in December, which analyzed at data from January 1 to November 15, 2021. Red Velvet, The Boyz, and iKON were on the previous unranked list.

Meanwhile, the following are the “most tweeted about K-pop artists globally”:

Twitter also named the following as the rising K-pop artists of 2021:

  5. ITZY
  6. IVE
  7. Cravity
  8. WEi
  9. Oneus
  10. CIX

In 2021, Twitter received 7.8 billion K-pop-related tweets worldwide, a new high compared to the 6.7 billion tweets received in 2020.

The social network expressed confidence that its K-pop community would “continue to break new records every year.”

"But beyond K-pop, we’ve also seen discussions about Korean content across the board on Twitter growing, with K-pop fans talking about not just their favorite music, performances, concerts, and daily lives, but showing increasing interest in dramas and webtoons with K-pop OST (original soundtracks) or starring K-pop idols," it said.
