SMC: ₱14-B SLEX elevated extension project now complete

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – San Miguel Corporation (SMC) officially opens the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Elevated Extension project, a P14 billion expressway aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in part of Metro Manila.

The inaugural ceremony was led by President Rodrigo Duterte and SMC President and CEO Ramon S. Ang.

As per report of CNN Philippines, the SLEX elevated extension project is now completely operational, reducing travel time between Muntinlupa and Balintawak to just 30 minutes, the top official of SMC said Tuesday.

During the inaugural ceremony, SMC President and CEO Ramon Ang stated, “Today, we formally present to you the completed SLEX Elevated Extension project.”

“With the completion of this project, seamless connectivity between SLEX, the Skyway system, and NLEX is now a reality,” he added.

The project’s four-kilometer, two-laned southbound alignment, which connects the Skyway in Sucat to SLEX in Susanna Heights, Muntinlupa – bypassing the Alabang viaduct – had a soft opening in December.

The completion of the project, according to the business magnate, might “play a significant part” in the country’s economic recovery.

Ang said that with this project, we can look forward to faster, more efficient travel, transport of goods, and improved trade throughout our cities and provinces in which this segment alone can accommodate about a 200,000 cars everyday from northbound and southbound.

Ang also expressed gratitude to Duterte for his support for the private sector.

“We thank President Duterte and his Build Build Build team, especially the Department of Public Works and Highways, headed by Sec. Mark Villar who was with us at the start of the project and through most of its construction, as well as Department of Transportation Sec. Art Tugade. They both recognized the importance of this project and gave us all the support we needed from start to end,” Ang said.
