New, Less Expensive iPhone may be released in 2022

Apple’s latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone 13, was unveiled in mid-September and went on sale in Philippine stores on October 22, causing long lines at Apple’s various stores across the Metro. With all of the excitement surrounding the iPhone 13, you may be considering upgrading, but we understand if the starting price of P44,990 is causing you to reconsider. In fact, you might want to put off buying one for the time being because, according to gadget leaks and tech insiders, a new iPhone SE will be released in 2022.

Is Apple Releasing a New iPhone SE in 2022?

The most recent iPhone SE, released in early 2020, was marketed as a more affordable alternative to Apple’s flagship models, following in the footsteps of the iPhone 5c and the first-generation iPhone SE, both of which were released in 2016. In exchange for the significantly lower price, you usually get a less cutting-edge design and fewer advanced specs and features. This isn’t to say that the iPhone SE isn’t worth buying in this day and age; it just isn’t the model for those looking for the most cutting-edge technology available. With the possibility of a new SE on the horizon, we could see some cool new updates that make the budget model a viable option in the 2020s.

On October 26, he updated his statement with a quote tweet, stating that the phone, which he dubbed the iPhone SE Plus, would most likely be released in 2022. Despite the “plus” in its name, the iPhone SE 2020’s 4.7-inch display is the same size as the iPhone 8, which was based on the iPhone 8’s design. Following Young’s comments, MacRumors speculated on the name’s meaning, noting that while Apple has traditionally used “plus” to denote a larger screen size, the naming standard has since changed, with larger models using the label “pro max,” as seen in the iPhone 11, 12, and 13. “Apple may be considering repurposing the “plus” name,” they speculated.

The iPhone SE 2020 costs P26,490 as of this writing, nearly P20,000 less than the smallest iPhone 13. With the demand for high-end technology increasing year after year, it’s difficult to say whether Apple users will be excited for the rumored SE model. However, it was recently reported that many Apple users were underwhelmed by the iPhone 13 when it was released. For those who do not want to upgrade to the latest model but whose current smartphones are nearing the end of their useful lives, the SE may be a viable option. We’ll have to wait and see for the time being.
