If elected, presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has vowed to appoint Sara Duterte-Carpio, his running mate and vice presidential candidate, to the Department of National Defense (DND).
On Monday, Jan. 24, during an interview with One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang, Marcos Jr. stated that this is what the presidential daughter wants.
“Nagulat din ako noong sinabi nya sakin, but it seems it’s going to be a good idea,” he said.
Given Duterte Carpio’s experience in local administration and the security and terrorism issues they faced in Davao, Marcos Jr. thought it was an excellent idea.
When Duterte-Carpio assured Marcos Jr. that she had already done a lot of initiatives to discourage people from joining terrorist groups, which she stated could be done on a national basis, Marcos Jr. was convinced.
“I’m sure marami syang mga bagong ideas na naiba doon sa dati na dapat nating tingnan. She’s a very intelligent person,” he said.
Duterte-Carpio recently stated that if elected vice president, she will fight for mandatory military duty for people aged 18 and up.
She stated that she will use her position to lobby Congress to pass legislation requiring both men and women to enlist in the military.
