Leody De Guzman ready to support VP Leni’s presidential bid if…

-

Leody De Guzman, a presidential candidate, said he is willing to support Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid if she takes a stand on various people’s issues.

Contractualization, low worker wages, rising basic-goods prices, and automatic debt appropriation are among the issues on which De Guzman sought a firm stance from the vice president.

He added that this effort is also aimed at unified candidates to defeat the duo of former Senator Bongbong Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

"Open ako makipag-usap. Para doon sa unified na laban. Pero sana, pauna lang, sana ay magkaroon ng klarong tindig sa issue ng mga mamamayan," De Guzman said in a press conference on Wednesday.

Walden Bello, his running mate, said there are now efforts from their end to reach out to Robredo’s camp.

"VP Leni and us, we are on the same side. But we are not yet on the same page. And in the process of these next few months, from our side, we will try to get to the same page," said Bello.

On Wednesday, De Guzman and Bello joined leaders from various organizations in a rally against Marcos and Duterte’s candidacy at UP Diliman.

Some of them even shaved their heads in opposition to Marcos and Duterte’s candidacy.

Coincidentally on Wednesday, the Marcos-Duterte tandem held a motorcade in Quezon City, causing heavy traffic along Commonwealth and Quezon Avenues.

Apart from filing disqualification cases against Marcos Jr. with the Elections Commission, as per Atty. to Louie Santos of the Campaign Against the Return of Marcoses and Martial Law, they are now focusing on community discussions.

Santos believes that if the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and President Rodrigo Duterte’s children win the elections next year, their bloody human rights records will be perpetuated.

Santos attributed Bongbong Marcos’ popularity to the country’s education system’s alleged failure to thoroughly discuss the country’s human rights violations and massive corruption during Martial Law.

De Guzman explained that supporters of Marcos-Duterte may be persuaded to change their minds if issues are clearly explained to them.
