A small-time business selling homemade empanadas has developed into a full-fledged store with daily sales of over P10,000. On GMA’s Pera Paraan, Haydee of Empanada Ahuy in Cavite highlighted the poor origins of her business.
Haydee began creating empanadas for her family as she would any other small business. She then prepared tiny batches and sold them to her husband’s coworkers or online. Her customers raved about the filling and couldn’t get enough of the tasty empanadas.
As a result, Haydee took a chance and started creating larger amounts.
According to Haydee, starting a successful firm does not necessitate a large sum of money. The majority of the time, what matters is your dedication and hard work.
She didn’t even have a rolling pin at first, which is necessary when creating empanada dough. It didn’t deter her, though, and she opted to improvise instead. She rolled out her dough with a bottle. Haydee started her empanadas business with a P250 start-up money.
Haydee chose to open her Empanada Ahuy shop in Alfonso, Cavite, as her business grew. It didn’t take long for it to become well-known in the community. They assure that their distinctive empanadas will be made fresh every day.
“Tikman Ang nakakadik na sarap ng Empanada Ahuy! Masarap Ang dough, masarap ang fillings!” it said.
Haydee says her initial goal was to sell ten boxes, or 150 pieces. Nonetheless, she is thrilled with the response, as she now sells more than 500 pieces per day. Her small business, which started with a P250 investment, now makes more than P10,000 each day.
Other prospective entrepreneurs were counseled by the successful businesswoman to work hard and stay focused on their goals.
“Hindi mo kailangan ng malaking capital, ang kailangan mo malaking sipad at tiyaga. Oo, kasi kung walang tiyaga, wala susuko ka na lang,” Haydee shared.
Customers can choose from over nine different tastes at Empanada Ahuy. Ham and Cheese, Spicy Tuna ala King, Classic Chicken, Pork, and Beef with Mushroom are among the five savory empanadas available. Mango Cheese, Ube Cheese, and Cheesy Choco Hazelnut are among the sweet empanadas available. A single piece costs P25, while a box of 15 costs P300. Empanada Ahuy recently announced that they have broken their previous record by selling over 750 pieces in a single day.
Haydee felt compelled to express her gratitude. Her first customers, she recalled, were her husband and three children. She now has consumers not just in Cavite but also in neighboring regions.
“My husband and kids ang kauna-unahang naging fans ng aking empanada. Dati sila lang ang pinagluluto ko. Ngayon, buong Alfonso na. Isama na din natin ang tagaytay, Indang, Mendez, Bailen, Dasma, at Laguna. Marami pong salamat sa inyong lahat at sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa Empanada Ahuy since day one,” Haydee said.
