Filipino designer Furne One opens Arab Fashion Week Menswear with ‘Ambush’

DUBAI, UAE – The third Arab Fashion Week Menswear autumn/winter 2022-23 season has started. The three-day event, held in Dubai Design District in collaboration with the Arab Fashion Council, began with a showcase by Dubai label Amato Couture.

Anyone familiar with Filipino designer Furne One’s fashion house knows to expect luxury, and they would not have been disappointed. Ambush, a 30-piece set, was named after a gang of tigers.

One stated that, “it is all about getting out of your comfort zone, embracing the uncertain and uniting together to claim our collaborative power.”

Male and female models glide down the black runways, dressed in exquisite costumes in every shade of gold. Leopard print abounds, created into luxury leisurewear such as Arabian Nights-meets-Midsummer Night’s Dream-inspired pieces.

The standouts were billowing robes, capes, and trench-like jackets in glittering silk, worn over matching shorts and loose-fitting trousers. There were also body-hugging jumpsuits that begged to be worn by Lenny Kravitz and Steven Tyler for a gig or two.

The grandeur of the materials was enhanced by the addition of exquisite jewelry. Necklaces in massive chains arrived, as did elephant skulls covered with claws and chain belts. The males wore sandals or no shoes at all, with black and orange aviators, caps, and silk scarves as the accessories to covet.

Even in a men’s presentation, it would be wrong not to see the designer’s iconic show-stopping outfits. His eye for detail is second to none, having clothed everyone from Beyonce to Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga to Katy Perry, making him a favorite of both stage performances and red carpets. Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela walked the runway in a floor-sweeping beaded gown with a thigh-high split, an oversized gold lame cape with striking sleeves tossed over her shoulders, and a chain mail headpiece that added to the overall decadence.

Furthermore, Nadia Ferreira, the reigning Miss Universe first runner-up and Miss Universe Paraguay, walked the runway with Laura Olascuaga, Miss Universe Colombia 2020. Tiktok Viral Star Elvir Aljicevic and Emirati YouTuber Rashed Belhasa “Money Kicks” also walked the runway, which was produced by Yugen PR.
