Ellaine Joy Calapao Sanidad, a Filipino student, is set to graduate with highest honors from the prestigious Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
Sanidad was awarded the highest honor in the Master of Studies in Diplomatic Studies program at Oxford on December 2.
On March 12, 2022, the Ilocos Norte native will receive her diploma from the prestigious university.
In the United Kingdom, the highest honor is known as “Summa Cum Laude,” which translates to “highest honors for a graduate or postgraduate to achieve.”
Sanidad earned her second master’s degree at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, after earning her MA in Speech Communication.
The Filipina also credited her success to God, her family, friends, mentors, and everyone who helped her along the way.
Sanidad said in a statement, “I have always been too hard on myself, and it was only recently that I learned how important it is to give myself a tap once in a while for being able to put up with the ever ambitious, difficult me.”
She also graduated as Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines in Los Baos, where she worked as an instructor and eventually as an assistant professor before going to Oxford.
Sanidad’s journey abroad began in 2016, when she applied for scholarships and was awarded the Chevening Scholarship in 2020, which guaranteed her a place at an international university.
“As I described it in one of my posts on IG, my application in Oxford was ‘suntok sa buwan’. I just tried applying there, but never really expected to be offered a place. So, imagine my joy when I received those two big news in 2020 in getting the Chevening scholarship, and offered a place in Oxford,” she added.
