Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Students at University of Laval, Canada for PhD

For the academic year 2022/2023, the Ministry of Higher Education is happy to provide Excellence Scholarships at the University of Laval in order to attract the best international students. The program intends to attract international students to apply to the university’s PhD degree program. The selected individuals will get a stipend of $25,000 per year.

    • Université Laval (Laval University) was founded in 1852 and is a non-profit public higher education school in the medium-sized metropolis of Quebec City (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 residents). Université Laval (UL) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 40,000-44,999 students) coeducational higher education institution that is officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, Québec (Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Quebec). In a variety of fields of study, Université Laval (UL) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, and doctorate degrees.

Criteria of Eligibility

  • All nationalities are eligible to participate.
  • Courses or Subjects Eligible: The scholarship will be awarded in any of the university’s subjects.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered:
  • A minimum of 4/4.33 in the most recent master’s program, whether finished or not;
  • Be enrolled in a third-cycle study program at the University of Laval or have accepted an offer of admission while submitting the application.
  • Students must have at least two peer-reviewed scientific works accepted or published. Students in research creation must include at least two artistic contributions in their file (examples: recitals, novels, concerts, etc.).

Benefits Offered

  • The institution will offer $25,000 per year for a maximum of three years (9 semesters), with the option of extending for up to an additional 12 months. In addition to the award, the MEES will exclude all scholarship recipients in this program from the additional tuition fees and health insurance that apply to overseas students.

Process of the Application

  • How to Apply: To submit your application, you must verify yourself using the personal identifying information you got (or will receive) from the Office of the Registrar while creating your admission file to Laval University. The candidate must create an account in the FRQnet system after being pre-selected.
  • Referee Recommendation: Your referee must also submit a recommendation.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree certificate with exceptional academic success in order to be considered for admission.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must be fluent in the English language, both written and spoken.

Deadline

  • Do not wait until the last minute to apply; applications must be received by June 21, 2022.
