Erap urged Gloria to run for office, willing to be a campaign manager

Former President Joseph Estrada greeted his former vice president, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, on her 75th birthday, informing her that if she sought office, he’d be her campaign manager.

Estrada made the statements during a phone conversation aired during the campaign of vice-presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, which Arroyo attended.

Estrada did not specify which government job he hoped Arroyo would seek. On the other hand, Arroyo is running for Congresswoman in Pampanga’s second congressional district.

Arroyo is running unopposed.

“I hope you run again, I’ll be your campaign manager,” Estrada said to some laughter in the audience.

“We need you, we need you…” he added.

Arroyo thanked Estrada for his message and also greeted Estrada who will celebrate his birthday on April 19.

“We need you also,” said Arroyo who would turn a year older on Tuesday.

Arroyo served as Estrada’s vice president from 1998 to 2001, when he resigned during EDSA Dos and a stalled impeachment process.

As the constitutional successor, she then assumed the presidency.

Arroyo won the 2004 presidential election over Estrada’s ally and favored candidate Fernando Poe Jr.
