Eleazar: Instead of just holding ball games, SK should help address juvenile crime

Leaders in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) should take a “more proactive” role in addressing juvenile delinquency, aside from organizing basketball games and other sports competitions.

This was the pitch of retired Philippine National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, who is running for senator alongside Senator Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III in the May 2022 elections.

Eleazar stated that he would increase the participation of youth council leaders across the country in order to address youth issues, particularly crimes involving minors.

Senatorial candidate for the Partido Reporma emphasized that he supports Lacson’s proposal that parents be held liable for their children’s criminal offenses.

Eleazar’s stance on the issue is part of his plan to “improve and strengthen” the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, which aims to provide proper care, protection, and treatment to juveniles who have broken the law.
