Duterte threatenes to arrest unvaccinated individuals

In the midst of tightening border controls, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte issued a warning to unvaccinated individuals.

The Philippines is stepping up its efforts to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Following an increase in daily cases in several cities, Metro Manila has been placed back on Alert Level 3. Local government units are enforcing stricter restrictions, including curfews.

The government continues to encourage people to get vaccinated because a large portion of the population is still unvaccinated. Undoubtedly, many people are still hesitant to get the vaccines. Many healthcare workers have already received their booster shots in the category of healthcare workers. Many of them are relieved to have additional protection in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

The national government intends to hold a seniors national vaccination day because many of the country’s senior citizens have yet to be vaccinated. Mayors in Metro Manila agreed to temporarily restrict unvaccinated people’s movements unless they were absolutely necessary.

Several key government officials expressed support for Metro Manila’s policy restricting the movement of unvaccinated people. They even proposed making it a national policy.

Per a report on ABS-CBN News, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave orders to village captains to look for unvaccinated individuals in their areas and order them to “stay put” in their homes.

According to the Chief Executive, if an unvaccinated person disregards the order and roams the community, he may be arrested.

Some barangay officials are moving to implement the President’s order, claiming that they can now do so because of the go signal from the executive branch. The establishments’ cooperation is also sought in the effort to combat the virus’s spread.
