Another Filipina from the United States who came to the Philippines allegedly escaped the government’s mandatory quarantine, according to Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
In a television interview, Puyat said several more incidents of quarantine breach have reached the Department of Tourism (DOT). This was followed by the infiltration of a Filipina who was also from the US, who did not follow the quarantine protocol and attended a party in Makati City, and later tested positive for COVID-19.
“After this incident, somebody gave the name and even gave pictures na the day she arrived, nagpamasahe pa as in she was even posting it on Instagram stories. Very proud ha na (that) she was skipping quarantine and her name was given and the person who knows her even gave a sworn affidavit. Nahuli na rin ‘yung tao na ‘yon,” the Secretary said.
“I’ve given it already to the [Bureau of Quarantine] and the [Department of the Interior and Local Government] and I will leave it up to them,” she added.
According to Puyat, the woman allegedly went straight to her condominium when she arrived in the country instead of going to the hotel quarantine facility.
“She didn’t even check in a hotel. She just said that she checked in this hotel but it showed that she didn’t even check in a hotel. Dumeretso sa condo niya,” Puyat said.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had earlier said, that they will hold accountable those who violate the quarantine protocols.
According to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, some people are paying for hotels to get through quarantine.
In an interview with Dobol B TV, Año said that sometimes it is the family member who encourages the incoming relative to go through quarantine to be with them.
Puyat called on the public to report to them the people and the hotel violating quarantine protocols.
