A chicken was caught after it entered a high security zone of the Pentagon, and the armed guards were startled.
The Agence France-Presse report said the chicken was turned over to local animal control officers after it was cornered in the colder part of the Pentagon, the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Pentagon security has no explanation as to how the chicken got in, or whether it posed any particular threat.
“Our officers were called to come pick her up,” said the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) in their Facebook Page.
“Sgt Balaena brought her safely to the shelter where she’ll stay until we find a new home for her,” said the organization, which posted a photo of the late brown chicken in a plastic carrying cage.
Many jokingly suggested that “Henny Penny” be named after the chicken, after AWLA asked about what to name it.
According to another commenter, “Colonel Sanders” is a good name for the chicken.
“I would check this chicken for bugs… and not the biological kind,” one of the netizens said.
“What a clustercluck,” the Military Times said.
