While stating that he respects the LGBTQIA+ community’s rights, vice presidential candidate Lito Atienza stated on Friday that he will only agree to same-sex marriage once men are able to get pregnant.
In a Teleradyo interview, Atienza stated that the country must adhere to “natural law.”
“Kapag ‘yung lalaki ay nagdadalangtao na at nanganganak, magbabago ako ng aking pananaw kasi ibig sabihin, nagbago na ang natural law,” Atienza stated when asked what drives him to support the country's institution of same-sex marriage.
Therefore we must follow natural law,” he added.
Atienza also stated that the government must adhere to the Church’s teachings, citing the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States as an example.
Look at where America is going now,” Atienza said.
Why is this happening? It’s happening because they have also violated natural law,” he added.
Despite his opposition to same-sex marriage, Atienza stated that he respects LGBTQIA+ people and will “always defend” them.
“I will always defend the rights of anyone to be happy. Ikaw ay pinanganak na gay, lumaki kang gay, you continue being gay, karapatan mo yan. And I will always defend your rights,” Atienza said.
“Under the Constitution, it’s also the right of everyone to be happy. I respect the rights of any citizen to define his own sexuality,” he added.
