Apple has a penchant for eliminating features from its most recent updates. And it appears that they are removing one very important piece of hardware from the iPhone 15 Pro.
The iPhone 13 series has only been available for a few months, and the iPhone 14 series will not be available until late next year. However, we are already hearing reports about the iPhone 15 Pro. This one, whether true or not, appears to be highly contentious.
According to this rumor, Apple intends to remove the physical SIM card slot from iPhones beginning with the future iPhone 15 Pro models, which will not be available until 2023.
According to sources, the 2023 Pro versions will offer dual eSIM compatibility, allowing customers to access two networks at the same time. However, there is no information on whether the non-Pro model will have the same omission.
While controversial, this move comes as no surprise given that Apple has explicitly said that its primary goal is to create an entirely portless iPhone. The iPhone 12 series now has MagSafe technology, which might render the lightning port redundant in future generations.
Physical port enthusiasts may yet have hope. As you may be aware, Apple attempted to remove the HDMI and other ports on the MacBook starting with the 2016 models, only to restore some of them in later versions.
However, the iPhone 15 series won’t be available for another two years, so it’s too early to say. Take this rumor with a grain of salt, however.
