Filipino-American rapper Apl.de.ap recently denied endorsing any of the candidates in the upcoming Philippine presidential election.
The Black Eyed Peas member, real name Allan Pineda Lindo, denied his involvement on Twitter after an image of him was used to campaign for Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
“Not me,” he simply replied to a follower who directed him to a poster depicting him as a supposed UniTeam endorser.
Apl.de.Ap also responded to a screenshot of a Facebook post that named celebrities and showbiz figures as supporters of Marcos, Jr. and Duterte.
“Country over party. Not endorsing any candidate,” he said on Twitter.
It is noted that there have been videos alleging that Apl was supporting the UniTeam, that is the electoral alliance of four political parties that support the candidacies of Marcos and Duterte.
However, upon further look, it was revealed that the man seen in videos of Apl allegedly performing at these campaign events was just an impersonator.
Previously, the likes of Parokya ni Edgar, Zach Tabudlo, and Vivien Ilagan of Team Payaman branded as “fake news” an announcement that they would be guest performers for a UniTeam rally.
Also in March, screen veteran Ai Ai delas Alas quashed speculation that she is a “Kakampink,” or a supporter of Marcos, Jr.’s opponent Vice President Leni Robredo. She has since become a visible figure in the UniTeam campaign trail.
