A father and a daughter in Albay couldn’t believe that they had both reached their dream of becoming a lawyer as both of them passed the 2022 Bar exams.
The Supreme Court officially released the 2022 Bar exam results wherein 8,241 out of 11,402 Bar examinees successfully passed the Bar exams for batch 2020-2021.
Bernardo Belarmino, 57, and Marie Bernardine Belarmino, 26, of Barangay Bonga, Bacacay, Albay were among those who passed the Bar exams.
Bernardo graduated from the University of Santo Tomas College of Law at Legazpi in 1991 but is now blessed to pass the bar exam for the seventh time. Bernardine graduated from the same school in 2020 and is one of the first-time takers who passed the Bar exams.
Their story was first shared on ABS-CBN News.
“Umalis po ako ng bahay while waiting for the result. I just wanted to be alone during that time. Naglakad lakad lang po ako tapos nung napadaan ako sa church dun ko na lang po napili mag-stay and nag-pray na lang din po ako while waiting to calm my anxious mind. And while nasa loob ako ng church, dun ko na nakita yung result ng bar exam,” Bernardine shared. “Sobrang happy po nang malaman ko na nakapasa ako and si papa. Umiyak po ako nung nalaman ko po na pumasa ako.“
Bernardine also shared that her dream since she was a child was really to become a lawyer and her father actually served as an inspiration to strive to reach her dream.
However, she said that there were times when she was discouraged to continue studying at the Law school.
ABS-CBN News reported that Bernardine is currently working in a law office as a staff, while her father is working in the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for 31 years.
At present, Bernardine will think of her next step as a new lawyer first. Meanwhile, Bernardo will finish his remaining three years at DAR before retiring and pursuing a career in law.
