DepEd’s new curriculum has increased students’ education for several years because of what they call K-12, to prepare young people to be useful at that age. But many parents do not agree with this because it only adds to the cost for them.
At the age of 20, a student should have finished college and can find a job. But in another country there is a 9-year-old boy who has just graduated from college.
Take an Electrical Engineering course at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) in Belgium. According to CNN report, Laurent Simons will be the youngest college graduate in the world in December 2019.
His father, Alexander Simons, said Laurent also had plans to pursue a PhD in electrical engineering while studying medicine. Laurent’s family is from a family of doctors. However, to date there is no explanation as to why a child learns so quickly.
“I ate a lot of fish during the pregnancy,” joked his mother Lydia.
The university allowed Laurent to finish his course immediately compared to other students.
“Special students that have good reasons for doing so can arrange an adjusted schedule. In much the same way we help students who participate in top sport, ”said Sjoerd Hulshof, education director of TUE. “Laurent is the fastest student we have ever had here. Not only is he hyper intelligent but also a very sympathetic boy, ”he added.
The young genius’ parents insist that they are still balancing Laurent’s life.
“We don’t want him to get too serious. He does whatever he likes. We need to find a balance between being a child and his talents, ”Alexander said. Before Laurent continues his study journey, he has plans to take a vacation in Japan.
