4Ps appeals on misleading information spreading in social media

-

Quezon City – The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) appeals to social media content creators to stop using the program, especially for content that would tarnish its integrity and misinform the public.

The appeal stemmed after a social media influencer released a content in his official Facebook account. In one post, the influencer released a short video which shows an apparent interview from a supposedly social worker and registering the interviewee as beneficiary of 4Ps based on the information provided during the interview. The story continued with the now registered program beneficiary preparing to apply for an appliance loan from one famous non-bank financial entity. In another content, a supposedly 4Ps beneficiary, after receiving an envelope with 4Ps written on it went gambling and later on engaged in a drinking spree.

While the 4Ps National Program Management Office (NPMO) said that, the story presented in the short video uploaded in the Facebook account has a similarity to grievances that the 4Ps received, it should be based on evidences. It also added that any information published in the social media spreads like wildfire and can easily be misinterpreted. The NPMO requests social media influencers to be more careful in their portrayal of the 4Ps beneficiaries and the program in general.

The NPMO also reminds the public, more importantly its program beneficiaries that it does not and will never endorse any political party or candidate to be elected. The NPMO likewise appeals to political candidates to refrain from using the 4Ps in their political campaigns.

4Ps is a program of the national government implemented thru the DSWD, that invests in the human capital of poor households. It was institutionalized in 2019 by virtue of Republic Act 11310. It has become the national poverty reduction strategy of the government that provides cash grants to improve the health, nutrition, and education aspects of their lives. The program also provides psychosocial and psycho-educational components through the Family Development Session leading the beneficiaries to an improved and sustained well-being

The program is being implemented nationwide covering more than 4 million households.
