$300,000 worth of Scholarship in America was given to a Farmer’s Son

A farmer’s son from Sigma, Capiz got a full scholarship to one of the prestigious schools in America.

Aldrean Paul Alogon was very excited and happy when he was accepted to the US liberal arts school Wesleyan University.

It was a rare opportunity for Aldrean to get into a school that only a few could attend. And he was lucky and was included in 11exceptionally able students” from certain Asian countries such as — the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The young man could not believe immediately because of the many applicants, he was one of the lucky ones. Aldrean’s story is that his father Alner, a farmer, answered the call and was the first to hear the good news.

“Thankful po ako, very joyful kasi it was all-expenses paid. Wala nang babayaran ‘yung family ko… World-class education na nga tapos libre pa, win-win talaga,” Aldrean said.

He graduated from Philippine Science High School-Western Visayas Campus. As a farmer’s son, it was said that it was challenging for him to study at Science High because at first he thought it was only for smart and rich students

But Aldrean proved with his intelligence and talent that he had something to offer.

What inspired him in his efforts was his bereaved mother who had been missing since 2015 due to a serious illness.

“When she passed away I had to be very independent at saka very open-minded. My mother was very loving of her siblings. Sa anim sa kanila, siya lang ‘yung professional… nakuha ko po ‘yung mindset ng nanay ko na kailangan ko po maging selfless kasi napakarami na pong ibinigay sa akin ng Diyos. Biniyayaan ako nang marami,” Aldrean said.

“Iniisip ko po lahat ng nangyayari sa akin hindi lang blessing sa akin kundi para ma-bless din po ‘yung iba,”he added.

He said that he will focus on his studies there so that when he returns he will have a lot of knowledge and experience.

“I’m there to learn and I’m there to acquire knowledge to come back here… I’m thinking of becoming a civic engagement person or a person in the sciences na ang focus talaga is the grassroots.”

He will also be taken to the airport by his father Alner because that will be their last meeting in four years.

“Excited na excited nga po siya. Kahit wala kaming pera, sasamahan niya raw po ako papuntang NAIA kasi last na daw namin ‘yung pagkikita in four years,” Aldrean.
